Cowden Associates Named to National Top Small Workplace List
Wall Street Journal and Winning Workplaces recognize exceptional small businesses
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Wall Street Journal and Winning Workplaces today named Cowden Associates, Inc. one of North America’s Top Small Workplaces.
With headquarters in Pittsburgh, Cowden Associates, the region’s leading independent actuarial and employee benefit consulting firm, is among the top 15 featured in today’s Wall Street Journal in the first annual ranking. The rankings recognize small businesses that have built workplace environments that encourage collegiality and professional growth and provide an atmosphere and benefits that make their employees want to stay.
"This recognition is about our commitment to employees," said Jere Cowden, president and CEO of Cowden Associates. "It’s about career development opportunities for our people, innovativeness and encouraging a fun and productive work environment, which translates into low turnover and continuity of service that our clients value and appreciate."
To be considered a Top Small Workplace, candidates had to: -- be a North American organization; -- be independent; -- have no more than $200 million in annual
revenues; -- have 500 or fewer employees; and -- have been in business at least five years.
"Small businesses continue to be the engine of economic growth in the U.S.," said Marcus W. Brauchli, managing editor, The Wall Street Journal.
"By providing our readers with this list of top workplaces, the Journal is able to capture the importance of what small businesses have to offer their employees and clients, particularly in their workplace practices. These small companies are leading innovators and tend to be role models for larger companies by creating an environment that encourages productive behavior."
Approximately 850 companies completed the initial process for consideration as a finalist. Winning Workplaces staff then selected 35 to be reviewed by a panel of judges for the 2007 Top Small Workplaces Award.
As part of the review, judges, including editorial staff from the Wall Street Journal, conducted extensive interviews with staff and certain clients for each finalist company.
The winners will be honored at a conference and awards dinner in Chicago on Oct. 3 and 4.
