The BABC will hold its Annual Transatlantic Business Conference for 2011, in San Francisco, from May 11-13, 2011.

The British American Business Council Pittsburgh Region (BABC) in partnership with the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh is pleased to welcome Ambassador Philip Lader to Pittsburgh on Monday, September 20th, from 12:00pm – 2:00pm for a luncheon presentation "A Good Morning’s Walk: The ’Special Relationship’ in a Globalized World". The British American Business Council in Partnership with the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh welcomes Ambassador Philip Lader for a presentation - "A Good Morning’s Walk: The ’Special Relationship’ in a Globalized World".

Philip Lader, the former US Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s, is Chairman of WPP plc, the world’s largest advertising/marketing services company. Ambassador Lader also is a Senior Adviser to Morgan Stanley, Vice Chairman of RAND Corporation, a director of Marathon Oil, AES and Rusal Corporations, and a partner in his home state’s largest law firm, Nelson Mullins.

He previously served in President Clinton’s Cabinet and was White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Assistant to the President, Deputy Director of the Office of Management & Budget, and Administrator of the Small Business Administration.

The BABC invites all members, friends, and associates to attend and also to market their organizations through hosting, and invite colleagues and clients to the luncheon presentation to be held on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 12:00PM at the Rivers Club.

"How will the leading business sectors contend with the challenges of the next decade?" This year, the British-American Business Council (BABC) will hold its Annual Transatlantic Business Conference in London for the first time since 2006. It will bring together members of the BABC’s 25 chapters throughout North America for a conference that will begin with a welcoming reception at the Royal Academy of Arts on 12 May. There will be a full day’s conference on 13 May, followed by a Gala Dinner at Lancaster House, and the conference will conclude with a half day (morning) session on 14 May. The conference will focus on how the leading business sectors will evolve, adapt and contend with the challenges ahead in order to achieve success. We believe that those attending the conference will gain a comprehensive view of the prospects for the key components of our economies across the board, and be able to put the challenges of their own businesses into the wider context and better understand the environment in which they will be operating. more…

Pittsburgh’s Tartan Day Festival celebrates all things Scottish. Five hours of Pipe bands, Celtic musicians, Scottish sports, workshops, vendors and food. There is dancing, music, raffles and fun all under one roof.
Free admission and plenty of free parking.

Global Innovation Building Synergies in tough Economic Times

Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham was formerly Minister for Trade and Investment at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and at the Department for Business, Enterprise & Regulatory from June 2007 to October 2008. Digby served as Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the UK’s ’Voice of Business’, from 2000 to 2006, where he regularly visited businesses in the UK and worldwide - taking their views back to those who make the rules. During his appointment he took the British business message to 70 different countries. He met on a regular basis political, business and media figures in the United Kingdom and around the world. From 2006-2007 he advised Deloitte, Jaguar, JCB, Barclays Capital and CSC. In addition he was a private adviser to HRH the Duke of York and was the UK Government’s Skills Envoy. In 1998 Digby joined KPMG as vice chairman of Corporate Finance, acting as close adviser to many public companies across the United Kingdom and in KPMG’s global markets. Digby is a Corporate Ambassador for the Cancer Research UK Corporate Ambassadors and is a Fellow of UNICEF. He is also a non Executive Director of Leicester Tigers Rugby Club. Digby is married to Pat and they divide their time between homes in Warwickshire and London. In his spare time he takes a keen interest in military history, having visited the sites of many famous battles throughout the world. more…
